In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is the downfall of the gods: the wolf Fenrir swallows Odin, Thor and the Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr slay each other, and the fire giant Surt sets the world ablaze until it sinks into the sea. But the tradition doesn’t end in ashes. From the waters the land rises anew and green, the human pair Líf and Lífthrasir have survived, and Baldr returns from the realm of the dead. End and beginning are inseparable – Ragnarök is no mere abyss, but the turning point of a great cycle. For you, this design tells exactly that second half of the story: rebirth after the end, the hope that dwells in every pile of ashes. The print shows a skull with a sword driven down through it, behind it two crossed Viking axes with ornate blades – the image of the final battle. A slender serpent winds around it, its line closing into a circle: a symbol of becoming that grows out of passing. Beneath it all, a banner carries the name “Ragnarök”.
